Charlotte and Hamish were married at Hamish’s parents’ place in Wānaka in early April. The ceremony was held in an open area of lawn, bordered by several large green and reddening trees. Rows of wooden chairs were set out for the guests, and two large flower arrangements by Little Botanica were set on stands to mark the point where Charlotte and Hamish would be married. Behind these, the surrounding hills dipped to reveal Mount Aspiring in the distance.
They kept a simple but elegant look for the wedding party. The bridesmaids wore black sleeveless dresses by Knuefermann. Charlotte’s gown, designed by Kenny and Harlow Bridal, had thin shoulder straps, a small train and a high split to above the knee, and she wore a long veil pinned in her hair. Hamish and the groomsmen each wore black suits designed by the Crane Brothers, a small white rose with a strip of tartan was pinned to their lapels. After the ceremony, the guests threw white petals over the couple as they walked back down the aisle, while a keyboardist played the song ‘I will love you’ by Gin Wigmore.
They all gathered afterwards under a large Truly Yours marquee set up alongside the house. Dinner tables were set out and laid with white tablecloths, linen napkins, delicate glassware and bunches of soft autumnal coloured flowers. The lawn and the marquee itself were lit with strings of lights, and further lights were set beneath the nearby trees, setting their lower branches aglow. After dinner, Hamish and Charlotte cut the cake – tall and two-tiered, decorated simply with a creamy, fluted icing – and afterwards, Calico, a four piece band, started up for the dancing.
