Tell me three fun things about yourselves!
Jamie – My cultural background is Thai, Chinese, Maori and NZ European – many people struggle to guess where I’m from! I played football growing up and also got into boxing, volleyball and tennis. My party trick is beatboxing which always surprises people.
Julie – I’m a civil engineer working in the three waters. In my spare time I enjoy getting creative (baking/cooking, drawing, painting), listening to podcasts or reading.
Tell me about the proposal?
Jamie proposed on a trip to Sydney where he had planned out the entire day, which is out of character as he never usually plans anything! Unfortunately this was overshadowed by the Queen’s memorial day in Australia, which meant a cancelled restaurant reservation and no beautiful view of the harbour as he had planned (the Queen’s likeness was project onto the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge was completely dark). We decided to head back to the hotel since it was also cold and raining – unusual for Sydney, and he proposed in the hotel room with a speech he had prepared. I could tell he was disappointed that his plans fell through, but I told him that the words he said honestly were the most meaningful part to me anyway and it was a very special private moment.
