Tell us about The Beginning!
We met at my childhood best friends 21st bday in Wellington just before the 2021 lockdown. We hit it off right away, started calling over lockdown, and then went and visited Welly for our first date! He took me out for dinner, dessert, then to a super romantic few spots/lookouts. We fell in love pretty quick. I don’t remember a specific moment, but I do know very soon into our relationship I knew he was the one for me. We did a year of long distance, then he moved to Nelson for me (green flag), and then he proposed to me 2 years into our relationship! So excited for the future!!
Tell us about the proposal?
We had spoken about wanting to get married – I told him what ring I’d want when he was ready to ask me… I was convinced he wouldn’t be able to surprise me, but he really did! He took me for a walk up Kina Bay Cliffs (one of our first date spots) for an ‘impromptu’ walk after lunch in Mapua with family. When we got to the top, I made a joke that it would be the perfect place for him to propose… He asked “would it?”, I said “yes!!”, and he said “ok I will”. He then pulled out a beautiful card he had designed with my name, the date and a speech (which I LOVED, because I am such a words person!!) He then asked me to marry him, I said yes, and then his family and mine surprised me! It was so special.
