PLAY

Abby and Adam got married at The Glasshouse; a tranquil oasis in the heart of Morningside, Auckland. The city wedding venue offers a romantic escape from the hustle and bustle of the city; set amongst oak trees and olives, with modern timber panelling, festoon lighting and high, glass ceilings.

Abby and Adam’s relaxed approach to their wedding day saw them steer clear of the black and white minimalist look, and embrace a light and summery aesthetic which set the scene for their celebrations. They turned to bright pops of colour in the floral arrangements and retro typography in the signage to inspire energy and to create a fun, lively atmosphere.

Abby was truly eye-catching in a one-of-a-kind wedding dress from Amare Bride, which was embellished in pearl adornments and featured striking statement organza sleeves and a straight-cut neckline. Her bridal bouquet, courtesy of Blush Floral, was fresh and feminine in soft hues of peach, pops of orange and white, and the colours were reflected in the floral decorations on their two-tier cake from The Caker.

Adam and his groomsmen were dapper in modern black suits, tuxedo-style shirts and black bow ties, while the bridesmaids suited the floral palette perfectly in soft, silky rusts. The central wedding location meant that bridal party photos were set against the city-scape of Britomart with alleyways, brick walls, and tree-lined backdrops.

Wedding guests dined at long wooden tables with natural linen tablecloths, wooden chairs and minimal, earthy-toned styling. The beautiful simplicity of the decor was an intentional choice, with the pair focusing instead on the food, the energy and the atmosphere of the day.

THE GALLERY

Tell us about The Beginning!

We met at Uni – I moved into a spare room in Adams flat. Unfortunately, we were friends for a very long time before beginning dating so neither of us can remember if we ever had a first date (classic!). The relationship just grew organically.

Tell us about the aesthetic you’ve chosen for your wedding day?

We are lucky enough that The Glasshouse speaks for itself. We wanted to keep details light and summery. A lot of our signage and florals have colour pops. We also wanted to avoid the black & white minimalist look. Mostly we wanted the atmosphere to feel comfortable to our guests yet inspire energy for dancing and good times which we felt colour does.

What were you most looking forward to on the day?

The food! 🙂 And celebrating with family & friends.

Share your top 3 tips for planning a wedding

Ask yourself if you remember any flower arrangements on tables from previous weddings. Chances are you don’t and they are expensive. Keep flowers on tables to a minimum. Most get in the way of food service and are removed.
Have more food during drinks over dessert. Cocktails is when guests drink their highest volume of alcohol.
Pick songs that reflect you and your partner, it doesn’t need to be 100% about love & relationships but just maybe no swear words in case of grandparents or little ears.

MY PHILOSOPHY

I SEEK THE STORIES THAT WEAVE US TOGETHER, THE UNSCRIPTED MOMENTS, INFUSED WITH A HINT OF NOSTALGIA TO REMEMBER HOW IT ALL FELT.

Throughout our lives, we experience connection, learning, different cultures, good food and wine, music, sorrow, love … and it’s beautiful. It’s all these little things that when bought together create the tapestry of our lives and our memories.

If you’re planning a wedding or would love some beautiful photos of you and the people most special to you, I'd love to hear from you.
