Tell us about The Beginning!

We met at our university hall, Fergusson Hall, at Massey Uni in Palmy. Liam was my RA and we became close friends during lockdown and started to like each other. Our friends sort of set us up. My friend told me that Liam wanted to talk to me about something and Liam‘s friend told him that I wanted to talk to him about something. Neither of us had actually said that we wanted to talk to the other but our friends succeeded in getting us to go for a drive together. Liam was really quiet until we got to McDonalds and he got me a hot choco. I didn’t know what to do and was super confused because he hadn’t said anything. So then I recommended we go for a walk by the river. He then decided to tell me that he liked me and I told him the same. We then found out later on that neither of us had actually intended to say anything to the other and Liam later told me he was actually going to wait until the very end of the year and write me a letter to tell me that he liked me after he would leave to go back to Auckland! I’m glad he didn’t do that lol. Our first date was super romantic, we had McDonald’s takeaways in the Palmerston North Square really late at night haha but it was very special for the two of us. Liam told me the day after he told me that he liked me that I was his forever girl and I told him that he would have to prove that. And he said he would, and here we are about 3 years later.

Tell us about the proposal?

We went down to Queenstown and had a reservation for the Onsen Hot Pools. But then I was really cold and tired the night it was scheduled so I told Liam I wanted an early night. The next morning Liam was calling them trying to reschedule our reservation for later that night. This confused me because we had been to the Onsen Hot Pools before. That night we ended up going and when I went to reach for the champagne they gave us which was sitting next to our towels, Liam stopped me and told me he wanted me to turn around and face the mountains so he could take a photo. That also confused me because it was really dark so I didn’t know why he would want to take a photo. Then when I turned around he had pulled out a ring which he had hidden in between the towels!

Tell us three fun things about yourselves!

I am super scared of heights and the first time we went to Queenstown for my birthday, Liam told me that he had booked a bungee jump appointment for me. And I was like but I don’t want to do a bungee jump. He convinced me for 10 minutes that that was our next stop until I was almost in tears and then he told me was completely joking. When I first moved to NZ to study, the first thing I did when I got to our uni hall was run to the bathroom to check if there was running water since a house hunter show in NZ I had watched before showed that multiple of the homes didn’t have running water so I was genuinely unsure if there was running water in NZ lol During lockdown, I was studying in our dining room and I went to my room to get a book. And Liam and a few other friends were sitting at the table talking. When I got back Liam asked me what time it is, so then I pushed on my ipad and there on the ipad I had left sitting there was this ridiculous photo that he taken of himself. And they taped my priceless reaction.
